The updated Sony PRS 700 has
attempted to solve some of the problems of the earlier
readers. This version does come with a keyboard through
a touch screen which makes the user able to interface
with the documents displayed.
The buttons on the sides of this reader have been
removed and all controls are performed by the touch
screen feature. In order to accommodate larger blocks of
texts and more books, Sony doubled the memory on the
PRS
700 and it comes standard with 512MB – further memory
cards are also available.
In order to make night time or low light reading
conditions easier the Sony PRS 700 has an added lighting
feature added to it that other Sony Readers have not had
till this point.
The Sony Readers do not have software capability to read
8.5 x 11 PDF files which inhibit their usefulness. Any
Microsoft document files actually have to be converted
in order to be read on the Sony reader and some users
report that document images come in distorted.
The Sony reader does support third party software that
can help them to become more compatible with PDF and
document files.
