The LG Solar Powered E-Reader!
LG has long been known as one of the most environmentally and energy conscious companies around. Almost as quickly as Barnes & Noble showed off their E-Reader savvy by unveiling the plans for a new colored E-Reader to be available, LG announced they would begin selling a solar powered E-Reader.
The LG E-Reader will be able to get a full days worth of charging by spending 4-5 hours in the sun. It comes with a 6-inch screen and the solar powered panels definitely didn’t add to much bulkiness to the device. It still is slim and will fit easily into a briefcase, purse or tote bag. No matter which way you think about E-Readers are definitely easier to carry around than the real hardback books found in libraries and with more and more content becoming easily available at great prices, E-Readers are definitely a must have for every student, business professional or book lover.
The key to the introduction of the LG solar powered reader is of course the energy consciousness that it will hopefully raise. It is definitely worth keeping in mind that E-Readers are fairly low energy users anyways and don’t require much batter power to turn pages. Nonetheless, LG has imagined that there are plethoras of green conscious customers who will be thrilled to pay the extra money in order to get a product that is
‘going green’ and conserving energy. It will also be a great product for those E-Reading consumers who spent a lot of time reading outside because they will be able to run on solar power alone. For people that love the outdoors, go camping a lot or find themselves in situations where power is limited, these will definitely be a must have gift.
While the idea is good, it stands to reason that they wont be able to compete very well with the new Barnes & Noble E-Reader that promises to offer more content than any other brand or the newer Kindle’s that have definitely refined usability and comfort with their recent upgrades.
If you are a fan of E-Readers, you should be excited about all these new features and launches of new product because they will no doubt drive the price tags of E-Readers down a bit in order to remain competitive. This is good for the consumer who will likely be offered more and more affordable choices.
