Kindle Expands it’s Downloading Capabilities

The Kindle E-Reader has been made over several times and has become a 6-inch wonder for avid book lovers, professionals and students alike.  The Kindle makes available thousands of books that can be downloaded in less than 60 seconds and purchased through Amazon.  This year, the numbers are finally adding up and it seems that E-Reading people are on the rise.  One of the downfalls of the Kindle system has been that people traveling outside the United States have been unable to download books using the Kindle because the Sprint network used for downloading was unavailable.

In order to remain competitive and stay one-step ahead of the other companies offering E-Readers, Kindle announced that download capabilities would extend to around 100 other countries outside of the United States.  Initially, this was met with much confusion as consumers thought they would be able to download books from those companies.  Kindle states that the downloads will still come from the regular base of book availability; with the difference being you can download them from the UK, China and other countries that you may be traveling to.

Kindle is facing pressure to perform with Barnes & Noble planning its E-Reader launch soon. The Barnes & Noble E-Reader will up the ante on available books by around 400,000 or more and Kindle is nervous about the results.  This new move makes the Kindle more useful for those that regularly travel outside of the country.  One downfall is that the new Kindle which will offer download capabilities in other countries requires a new purchase by the consumer.  The good news is the USA based only Kindle has dropped around $40.

No matter which way you look at it, this is a great move for Kindle and for those that travel.  They are still in secret discussions with Random House about having access to their material and if that occurs than the Kindle will instantly offer access hundreds of thousands of new material.

This new move by Kindle definitely shows their flexibility to meet the demands of serious E-Readers and the new International E-Reader is definitely a must have for the avid E-Reader who travels often.

The LG Solar Powered E-Reader!

LG has long been known as one of the most environmentally and energy conscious companies around.  Almost as quickly as Barnes & Noble showed off their E-Reader savvy by unveiling the plans for a new colored E-Reader to be available, LG announced they would begin selling a solar powered E-Reader.

LG Announces a Solar Powered E-book Reader     The LG E-Reader will be able to get a full days worth of charging by spending 4-5 hours in the sun.  It comes with a 6-inch screen and the solar powered panels definitely didn’t add to much bulkiness to the device.  It still is slim and will fit easily into a briefcase, purse or tote bag.  No matter which way you think about E-Readers are definitely easier to carry around than the real hardback books found in libraries and with more and more content becoming easily available at great prices, E-Readers are definitely a must have for every student, business professional or book lover.

The key to the introduction of the LG solar powered reader is of course the energy consciousness that it will hopefully raise.  It is definitely worth keeping in mind that E-Readers are fairly low energy users anyways and don’t require much batter power to turn pages.  Nonetheless, LG has imagined that there are plethoras of green conscious customers who will be thrilled to pay the extra money in order to get a product that is

‘going green’ and conserving energy.  It will also be a great product for those E-Reading consumers who spent a lot of time reading outside because they will be able to run on solar power alone.  For people that love the outdoors, go camping a lot or find themselves in situations where power is limited, these will definitely be a must have gift.

While the idea is good, it stands to reason that they wont be able to compete very well with the new Barnes & Noble E-Reader that promises to offer more content than any other brand or the newer Kindle’s that have definitely refined usability and comfort with their recent upgrades.

If you are a fan of E-Readers, you should be excited about all these new features and launches of new product because they will no doubt drive the price tags of E-Readers down a bit in order to remain competitive.  This is good for the consumer who will likely be offered more and more affordable choices.

The Barnes & Noble E-Reader; Fact or Fiction?

bn     For avid book lovers and those that just can’t live without an E-Reader the buzz started last February about Barnes & Noble launching a brand new colored E-Reader has been a culmination of fact and fiction.  It started with the merge of Plastic Logic with Fictionwise and then further caused suspicion when Barnes & Noble acquired Fictionwise soon thereafter.  No matter what, the colored E-Reader that is suspected to be marketed near the end of October by Barnes & Noble is going to change the way people read.  With all the new content that will be compatible, they may just be able to have one of the largest E-Reader libraries available.

How will have more titles?

What this means for those of us who love E-readers and books in general is that we will suddenly have access to around 400,000 more titles than every before.  As of right now, the company with the largest E-Reader content is Amazon coming it at around 350,000 titles.  Barnes & Noble plans to offer around 700,000 titles that will be available through their new device made by Plastic Logic as well as on Blackberry’s and I-Phone’s.

As the popularity of E-Readers has risen with the unveiling of the Kindle and Kindle-DX, models the sale of actual books has steadily dropped.  Barnes and Noble have worked a deal with Google and will be offering around half a million public domain books to people with the Barnes & Noble E-Reader only.  This should definitely close the market and as long as the product is effective and comfortable for people to use may just seal the deal for competitors.  Another note is that the Barnes & Noble E-Reader and the titles available for download will only be available with the Plastic Logic Barnes and Noble E-Reader.  This means that people using competitor’s devices will have to make a swift switch in order to gain access to the multitude of new titles, many of which are offered completely free.

The E-Reader market has slowly yet steadily gained popularity and is useful for much more than just avid book readers.  Business people and students find their size exceptional for travel and they have an ease of use that far surpasses that of a laptop computer.  Not to mention they are extremely economical.

Barnes & Noble has apparently did their research and plans to launch the product in the Spring putting a swift end to many of the complaints that consumers have about availability of materials and ease of use with the other models.  The E-Reader controversy is definitely a fact and will launch Barnes & Noble into the future of book sales.  For consumers, this makes the market even more competitive, is likely to drive down prices and opens up millions of new material available.

Things are going to become even  more interesting, when Apple will join the eReader wars.  The GLG experts already decided  that If any one can take on this reader market – it is Apple.  Good luck B&N!
